A new chapter in the popular “Left Behind” series hits theaters soon. “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist” comes to select theaters nationwide for a limited time starting in January 2023.
“I’m excited to bring this film to theaters across the country,” actor and director Kevin Sorbo said in a press release. “With recent current events and talk about the end times, this captivating story delivers the essence of what made the original book series and film so successful but does so in a fresh way, hopefully ushering in a new generation of fans.”

Upon hearing the title of the new “Left Behind” film, some fans might assume it’s a page-to-screen telling of “Nicolae: The Rise of Antichrist.” In the third book in the Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins’ series, which includes a total of 12 books, a charismatic Nicolae Carpathia takes over the United Nations.
“The only light after the world falls into chaos is a charming new leader who rises to the head of the U.N., but does he bring hope for a better future? Or is it the end of the world?” the film synopisis reads.
Left Behind: Rise Of The Antichrist – Official Trailer
Filmmakers describe this new movie entry as “an updated storyline” and a “sequel” to the Nicolas Cage-led “Left Behind” movie from 2014.
Another cut of the cult classic from 2000 starring Kirk Cameron will likely draw die-hard fans.
They helped Cage’s “Left Behind” reportedly nab more than $27 million at the box office. That means the 2014 version grossed about six times more in box office sales than the Cameron project, and even picked up a few nominations (GMA Dove Awards and Razzie Awards).
