“The Hill” is a new Christian movie about baseball player Rickey Hill overcoming his physical disability to make it to the minor leagues. Dennis Quaid stars in this Rickey Hill baseball movie about faith and perseverance.
The movie tells the true story of Rickey Hill, who was born in Fort Worth, Texas, into a poor family. His father, played by Quaid, was a Baptist preacher who discouraged him from pursuing his dream. Hill was born with a spinal disease that required him to wear leg braces. His father thought he would worsen his physical challenges by playing baseball. But Rickey never gave up on his dream.
As it states on Hill’s website: “Despite adversity, from poverty, bullying due to the braces on his legs, and balancing expectations and dreams, Rickey’s relentless pursuit of his passion in baseball made him one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen.”
Hill played with various leagues for about four years, last taking the field in 1978, according to statscrew.com. The website reports Rickey Hill’s baseball stats. He “compiled a career batting average of .298 with 26 home runs and 116 RBI in his 201-game career.” He reportedly played with the Lethbridge Expos, Rio Grande Valley White Wings, Texas City Stars, and Grays Harbor Loggers.
