Miracles From Heaven
At the age of 10, Anna Beam (Kylie Rogers) is diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease. The movie then follows her and her parents, Christy (Jennifer Garner) and Kevin (Martin Henderson) through years of battling the illness. Things take a surprising turn when Anna has an experience that seems to cure her miraculously. Some people are awed, some people are skeptical – but through it all, The Beams Family holds firm onto their faith.
Critics were lukewarm about the movie but it won a Teen Choice Awards in the Choice Movie : Drama category. Despite some shortcomings, it’s ultimately an earnest and heartfelt film loved by audiences, so chances are you will too!
While playing on a frozen lake, John Smith (Marcel Ruiz) falls through the ice and does not regain consciousness. Doctors tell his adoptive parents to expect the worst but his mother Joyce Smith (Chrissy Metz) holds firm to her belief that John will recover. With so many challenges to her conviction, will their prayer for a miracle ever come to pass?
Chrissy Metz sang the soundtrack of the film, titled I’m Standing With You. The rousing tune later went on to be nominated for Best Song at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Heaven Is For Real
Following a critical surgery, four-year-old Colton Burpo (Connor Corum) claims that he visited Heaven and met Jesus who brought him back to life. His confession poses a dilemma to his father, pastor of a small Wesleyan church Todd Burpo (Greg Kinnear), who expresses wariness about relaying Colton’s experience to his congregation.
Despite lackluster reviews, the film grossed over $100 million at the worldwide box office against a modest $12 million budget. It is currently the second highest grossing Christian films of all time, behind only The Passion of the Christ.
